These terms cover the OpaCaptions app, the opacaptions.com website and your OpaCaptions account. We've written them in plain English. Last updated: 29 October 2026.

1. Agreeing to these terms

By creating an account, downloading or using OpaCaptions, you agree to these terms. If you use OpaCaptions for an organisation, you confirm you're allowed to accept them on its behalf. "We" and "us" means OpaCaptions; "you" means you.

2. Your licence to use OpaCaptions

We license OpaCaptions to you; we don't sell you the software itself. Under these terms you may install and use it, for personal or business work, on the number of PCs your plan allows: Pro on one PC, Studio on up to five. The Free plan has the limits described on our pricing page.

You may not share, sell or publish your licence key, use it on more PCs than your plan allows, get around licence checks or watermarks, or copy, resell or redistribute the app. You may not reverse engineer it except where the law allows you to.

3. Buying a plan

Paid plans are a one-time payment for a perpetual licence: the version you have keeps working with no further payments. Each purchase includes one year of updates. After that, renewing updates is optional. Prices are shown on our pricing page, and any tax that applies is shown at checkout. Early-bird prices apply only while we offer them.

4. Refunds

Purchases come with a 14-day money-back guarantee, as explained in our refund policy.

5. Your content stays yours

OpaCaptions processes your videos on your own PC; we never receive them. Everything you caption, and every file the app creates, belongs to you. You're responsible for having the rights to the content you caption and publish.

Captions are produced by AI and can contain mistakes. Please review them before you publish, especially where accuracy matters (for example accessibility, legal, medical or safety content).

6. Your account

Keep access to your email and any password safe, as they control your account and licences. Tell us at support@opacaptions.com if you think someone else has used your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

7. Open-source components

OpaCaptions includes open-source software, such as OpenAI's Whisper speech model, used under its own licence terms. Those licences are listed in the app, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under them.

8. Updates and changes

We may improve or change OpaCaptions and the website over time. We won't take away the core function of a version you've paid for: it keeps captioning on your PC. Some features, like activating a licence, need our servers to be reachable at the time you do them.

9. Fair use

Don't use OpaCaptions or our website to break the law, infringe others' rights, attack or overload our servers, or abuse refunds or free licences. We may suspend licences or accounts that do.

10. Warranty and liability

We work hard to make OpaCaptions reliable, but it's provided "as is", without warranties beyond those the law requires. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for OpaCaptions in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

11. Ending

You can stop using OpaCaptions at any time. If you seriously break these terms we may revoke your licence after telling you why.

12. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we'll update this page and the date above, and tell account holders by email about important changes. The terms in force when you bought a plan continue to apply to that purchase.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without taking away protections you have under the laws of the country where you live.
