Affiliate terms

The affiliate deal, in plain English.

These terms cover the OpaCaptions affiliate programme: sharing your link, earning commission and getting paid. Our general terms of service and privacy policy apply too. Last updated: 2 November 2026.

1. Joining

You apply from your OpaCaptions account and accept these terms when you do. "We" and "us" means OpaCaptions; "you" means you, the affiliate. To join you must be at least 18, not live in a country or region under comprehensive international sanctions, and have a PayPal or Wise account in your own name. One affiliate account per person.

We approve applications at our discretion, based on whether OpaCaptions fits your audience (people who make videos, podcasts or lessons on Windows PCs). We may decline an application without giving a reason, and you can apply again later.

2. Your link and how referrals are tracked

Once approved you get a link of the form opacaptions.com/r/yourcode. When someone opens it, we store one first-party cookie in their browser for 60 days, holding only your affiliate code. If they create a free OpaCaptions account while the cookie is there, the account remembers your code for 60 days from that moment, so a purchase on another device still counts.

If someone opens more than one affiliate's link, the most recent one counts. Attribution depends on the cookie or the account: cleared cookies, blocked cookies or a different browser before sign-up can lose a referral, and we can only credit what our system recorded. If there's a disagreement about a referral, we'll look into it in good faith and our records decide.

3. What earns commission

A sale earns commission when a customer who has never bought OpaCaptions before buys Pro or Studio within the 60 days above, and the sale isn't refunded or charged back. These don't earn: your own purchases or purchases made for you, free licences (non-profit, coupon or hand-issued), update renewals, and any other product, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

4. Commission

You earn 50% of the price the customer paid, not counting sales tax, VAT or GST. Payment-processing fees are ours. Commission is calculated in US dollars. We may change the rate for future sales by emailing you at least 30 days before; sales made before the change keep the old rate.

5. Getting paid

A commission becomes payable 14 days after the sale, once the refund window has passed. On or around the 15th of each month we pay everything that is payable, by PayPal or Wise to the address in your affiliate dashboard, once you're owed at least $50. Smaller balances roll over to the next month. Any fees PayPal or Wise charge you to receive money are yours, and we aren't responsible for payments sent to details you gave us.

You're responsible for any tax on what you earn. If the law requires it, we may ask you for tax information before paying.

6. Refunds, chargebacks and reversals

If a sale is refunded in full, lost in a chargeback, turns out to be fraudulent, or was a duplicate or a mistake, its commission is reversed. While a chargeback is open, its commission is on hold. If a reversed commission was already paid, we take it off your next payout.

7. How you may promote OpaCaptions

Promote OpaCaptions honestly, in your own content: videos, posts, descriptions, newsletters and your website. In every recommendation, clearly say that you're an affiliate and earn a commission, as advertising rules require (for example the US FTC's endorsement guides and the UK ASA's rules); "affiliate link" or #ad next to the link is the simplest way. Say that OpaCaptions runs on Windows 10 and 11. Only describe what it really does and the prices we actually show, and follow the rules of every platform you post on and the laws that apply to you, including anti-spam and privacy law.

8. What's not allowed

Breaking these rules can end your participation at once, and commissions from the breach are forfeited.

9. Our name and logo

While you're an affiliate, you may use the OpaCaptions name, logo and the screenshots we give you, only to promote OpaCaptions under these terms. Don't change the logo or combine it with your own marks. We may ask you to change or remove content that uses them, and the permission ends when you leave the programme.

10. Your free Pro licence

Approved affiliates get a free Pro licence, so you can use and show OpaCaptions. It's yours to keep, unless your participation ends because you broke these terms, in which case we may revoke it.

11. Suspension and leaving

You can leave at any time by emailing support@opacaptions.com. We can suspend or end your participation at any time, and will tell you why where we reasonably can. When it ends, stop using your link and our materials. Commissions you earned fairly before then are still paid once they're payable, even if your final balance is under $50.

12. Your information

For the programme we keep your account email, the links and audience notes you gave us, your payout method and payout email, click counts (with a salted, one-way hash of the visitor's IP address, never the address itself), sign-ups and the sales credited to you. You see your clicks, sales and commission, never who your buyers are. Details are in our privacy policy.

13. Independent

You take part as an independent business or individual. This doesn't make you our employee, agent or partner, and you can't make promises on our behalf.

14. Liability

We run the programme as carefully as we can, but it's provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for lost earnings from tracking failures, downtime or changes to the programme, and our total liability to you is limited to the commission paid or payable to you in the 12 months before a claim.

15. Changes

We may change these terms or the programme. We'll update this page and the date above, and email affiliates at least 14 days before an important change takes effect. If you keep sharing your link after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can leave.

16. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without taking away protections you have under the laws of the country where you live.
